Cincinnati Opera Announces Chorus and Mainstage Auditions for 2022 Summer Festival
Cincinnati, Ohio—Auditions for Cincinnati Opera’s 2022 Summer Festival Chorus and mainstage roles will be held November 18−20, 2021, in Cincinnati Music Hall’s May Festival Rehearsal Hall (1244 Central Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45202). Applications are to be completed through an online application process. All applicants have the option to audition in person with COVID-19 health and safety protocols in effect, or to submit a virtual audition. In-person and virtual auditions are considered equal and will receive the same grading and consideration.
The Cincinnati Opera Chorus and mainstage roles are paid, professional engagements under the jurisdiction of AGMA, the American Guild of Musical Artists. Residents from outside of the Greater Cincinnati area are welcome and encouraged to audition; however, applicants should be aware that most chorus members and smaller mainstage roles tend to be cast locally.
Cincinnati Opera seeks applicants for the following mainstage roles:
La Bohème: Benoit, a landlord (bass); Alcindoro, admirer of Musetta (bass); Parpignol, a toy vendor (tenor); Custom-House Officer (bass); Sergeant (bass); Child (Act II−boy’s solo, treble); Prune Man (tenor)
Fierce (World Premiere): Morgan (soprano)
The Pirates of Penzance: Sergeant of Police (bass); Samuel (baritone); Edith (mezzo-soprano or soprano); Kate (mezzo-soprano); Isabel (soprano)
Rehearsals and performances for Cincinnati Opera’s 2022 Summer Festival will begin in late May 2022 and run through the end of July 2022.
Audition Process
Audition requests are received exclusively through an online application process. Applications must be submitted no later than November 5, 2021. Please email auditions@cincinnatiopera.org with any questions.
Individuals interested in auditioning are asked to follow these steps:
Complete the online application at https://www.yaptracker.com/applications/cincinnati-opera-mainstage-chorus-2022/. Applicants must have an account with YAP Tracker, an online auditions management tool, and may sign up for free at this link: https://www.yaptracker.com/register-applicant. Applicants are required to upload a resume (PDF only, please) detailing performance experience.
Applicants will have the chance to select the opportunities (chorus, mainstage, or both) for which they are interested in auditioning within the application.
Singers will be notified by email if an audition has been granted. They will then have the option to schedule their own audition time via YAP Tracker.
Auditions will be held in the May Festival Rehearsal Hall at Cincinnati Music Hall; entrance is located at 1244 Central Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45202. Singers auditioning for the Cincinnati Opera Chorus should prepare two (2) contrasting arias in their original languages. Singers auditioning for a mainstage role should prepare five (5) contrasting arias in their original languages. An accompanist will be provided for in-person auditions. Those opting to audition virtually will have the opportunity to upload their video submissions directly in the application.
