Health & SAFETY

Updated 10.18.2023

The safety of our audience, artists, and staff remains top of mind. We continue to monitor community health conditions in order to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all in the audience, on the stage, and behind the scenes.

The following revised protocols were informed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest guidance on COVID-19, which is based on hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area. Hamilton County, Ohio is currently categorized by the CDC in the High COVID-19 Community Level.

 As of October 18, 2023:

  • COVID cases in Hamilton County are presently at level LOW.

  • Proof of vaccination against COVID is not required of audiences, guests, or visitors at this time.

  • The wearing of masks is optional but subject to policies in place for any venue outside of Music Hall where a performance may occur. Please check requirements listed for each performance carefully. Details will be emailed to all ticketholders prior to the performance.

If you are experiencing COVID-19, flu, or cold symptoms or have recently been exposed, stay at home and contact the Cincinnati Opera Box Office at 513-241-2742 for information about ticket options.

These changes are effective as of Monday, March 14, 2022.

+ Will these changes apply to all Cincinnati Opera performances?

These changes apply to the majority of Cincinnati Opera performances until further notice. Please note that select Cincinnati Opera events may require different protocols, including the resumption of mask-wearing and/or proof of vaccination. Please bookmark this page and revisit prior to your performance date for up-to-date information. Health and safety information will also be sent to ticket holders in advance of their performance.

+ Why are you making these changes now?

These changes have been made in response to improving public health conditions in our community, as well as the recent COVID safety updates announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) allowing for the relaxation of masking in indoor spaces within communities that are at the Low or Medium Community Level. Hamilton County, Ohio is currently at the Low Community Level. To learn more about the CDC’s Community Levels, please visit this link.

+ On what recommendations/data did you base these decisions?

These decisions are based on regional COVID-19 data, as well as public health and government officials. Hamilton County, Ohio is currently categorized in the Low COVID-19 Community Level according to updated CDC guidelines, which are based on hospitalization data and the number of new cases in a community.

+ Could these policies change if there is another variant or surge in COVID cases?

These policies may change at any time. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have monitored regional data, as well as the guidance of public health and government officials, along with our medical advisor, and we have implemented COVID mitigation protocols accordingly. If our community’s risk level changes, we may reevaluate these policies and could require additional measures to ensure the safety of our audience. Likewise, we are committed to the health and safety of our artists and staff; there may be circumstances in which additional COVID mitigation measures may be required to ensure their ability to work safely. We will continue to monitor conditions and adjust our protocols as needed; please continue to check this page for up-to-date information.

+ Is it safe to attend a performance without these protocols?

Yes, based on the low level of COVID-19 transmission in the community. According to public health and government officials, the best prevention strategy is to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. You may also wear a mask for an added layer of safety, especially if you are non-vaccinated or have a medical condition that puts you at high risk. We encourage you to talk to your healthcare provider if you have additional questions about your personal health situation.

+ Can I still wear a mask to Cincinnati Opera performances?

Audience members are welcome to wear masks at any Cincinnati Opera event.

+ What safety measures are still in place?

Air ventilation has been optimized throughout Music Hall with high-grade filters and frequent re-circulation of air, and both venues are routinely cleaned and sanitized. Disposable masks will be available to audience members who wish to use them, and hand sanitization stations will be available throughout the venues for accessibility and convenience.
