2012 Opera Raps
Cincinnati Opera embarks on its 92nd summer season in June and July 2012, and in the months leading up to its summer performance season the company will present a diverse series of Opera Rap lectures. These community programs have been created to enlighten and engage opera devotees and newcomers alike, and feature an array of guest speakers leading conversations on topics related to Cincinnati Opera’s 2012 Summer Festival.

2012 Season Preview

Join Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera, for a sneak preview of Cincinnati Opera’s 2012 Summer Festival, running June 14 through July 29. The season will open with a double bill of Italian one-act operas, pairing the tragic verismo of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci with the comedic charm of Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Next, Cincinnati Opera will proudly present its first-ever production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. The season will close with a sumptuous production of Giuseppe Verdi’s heartrending romance La Traviata.
Life as Bess: A Panel Discussion
Anticipating Cincinnati Opera’s upcoming production of Porgy and Bess, we present a thought-provoking conversation about Bess’s drug abuse and her relationship with Crown. The discussion will feature Theresa Singleton, Abuse Specialist at the YWCA, and singer Angelique Clay.

World Voice Day Symposium

Inviting all singers! At this educational event, singers can explore the voice, how it works, how to take care of it, and what’s going on in the voice world. Join voice specialists Dr. Sid Khosla and Dr. Eva van Leer of the UC Health Performance & Professional Voice Center as they discuss vocal health. Kenneth Shaw, Director of Opera d’arte at CCM Undergraduate Opera, and Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera, will also present. View the event brochure here.
