2011-2012 Touring Programs for Schools
Cincinnati Opera Education provides operatic experiences for school-aged audiences through its award-winning Touring Program. The Resident Ensemble performs a variety of fully-staged musical programs for thousands of students in the tri-state area annually. Each show is intended to enhance existing school academic and artistic curriculum, and speaks directly to students in an engaging, entertaining way. A study guide including cross-curricular activities that refer to state and national standards accompanies performances. Target audiences are students PreK-12.

Opera Redux: Porgy and Bess │ January 30 – February 19, 2012
It’s summertime on Catfish Row, and Bess is torn; she loves the sweet, caring Porgy, but her drug addiction keeps pulling her back to the abusive Crown. The drama unfolds with well-known tunes in this hour-long version of George Gershwin’s opera, set in 1930s Charleston, South Carolina.
Recommended for grades 7 – 12 and adults.

Little Red Riding Hood │ April 30 – May 18, 2012
A lively Little Red and a comical wolf join forces to share playful lessons on the importance of personal safety, proper diet, and good health. Our delightful adaptation of the classic Grimm Brothers fairy tale is sure to help keep students on the right path.
