Twenty years is a long time, she thought. A lifetime, really. And honestly, it had all happened just like he said it would. The elegant parties, lavish costumes, and autograph-seeking fans–they faded into memory as she returned to her home and his embrace. So, there, under the moonlit sky on a small steamboat churning down the vast Amazon River, she imagined how it would be. The curtain would open. The crowd would applaud. She would sing, and her voice would soar to him.
Cincinnati Opera is proud to bring this "truly stunning" (Houston Press) production, which "captures the fragrant, iridescent atmosphere of both the text and the music," (San Antonio Express News) to the Music Hall stage. The Los Angeles Times raved "the production...is a beauty."
Leading an amazing ensemble cast is soprano Alexandra Coku–"both regal and vulnerable...with great finesse and natural charm" (Opera News)–making her company debut. As the formidable river god, Riolobo, two-time Grammy Award–winning baritone Nmon Ford brings his "intense physical energy and waves of glorious sound" (Los Angeles Times) to Cincinnati Opera.
Please note: Evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.
