Music by Giuseppe Verdi
Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave

Sometimes it lasts in love …

How silly he was, boldly declaring his love like that. Surely, he understood her position. He had to know that none of this was really hers–the apartment in Paris, the latest fashions, the jewelry. But, before she knew it, his words had pierced her heart, and she dared to hope. Perhaps he loved her. Perhaps it wasn’t too late.

Verdi’s heartrending tragedy La Traviata is one of the best-loved operas of all time. We’re pleased to present this 1853 masterpiece in a “lavish, colorful, and romantic” production from Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The world-renowned husband-and-wife team of Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello, whose performance in Cincinnati Opera’s 2010 production of La Bohème was described as “overwhelming… in its unexpected dramatic power,” will return to Music Hall as lovebirds Violetta and Alfredo. Sardinian baritone Marco Caria, who made his Cincinnati Opera debut in 2009 as Don Carlo‘s Rodrigo, will sing the role of Germont.
